OBJECTIVETo study the change of the serum thyroid hormone levels and evaluate the association between the serum thyroid hormone levels and CTP classification and MELD scores in patients with cirrhosis. We also assessed whether liver function tests correlated with thyroid function.METHODSInvestigated and analyzed 212 hospitalized cases of liver cirrhosis in the First Affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University during Jan.2015 to Jan.2017.And 40 healthy cases were selected as control group. To evaluate thyroid hormone values in patients with liver cirrhosis and to compare them with healthy controls.RESULTSThe etiology of liver cirrhosis has no significant influence to the serum thyroid hormone levels(P>0.05).No differences were shown in compensated or decompensated liver cirrhosis(P>0.05).TSH levels were not statistically significantly difference in the four groups. There were statistically difference between the three groups in patients with liver cirrhosis of Child-Pugh grade in the serum TT3 level(P<0.05).The serum of FT3、TT4 in patients with liver cirrhosis obviously lower than healthy control, which was statistically significant differences(P<0.05).The serum of FT4.In the serum of FT3,Child-Pugh grade A and grade B were lower than healthy control and Child-Pugh grade C(P<0.05).TT3 and FT3 correlated negatively with the Child-Pugh score and MELD score.CONCLUSIONSThe serum thyroid hormone levels can be a measure of severity of liver dysfunction and prognosis of liver cirrhosis. They are effective clinical parameters to estimate patients’ condition.
