Objectives: We evaluated flow parameters measured by phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging(PC-MRI) of the portal venous system to determine the usefulness of this method in estimating liver function in patients with cirrhosis. Methods: We evaluated 43 patients with Hepatic B Cirrhosis(35 males, 8 females, mean age of 51.6 years, range from 29 to 70 years) and 10 cases of control group, who underwent magnetic resonance imaging of the upper abdomen at 3.0T. In those patients, we performed PC-MRI on the portal vein(PV), superior mesenteric veins(SMV) splenic vein(SV); calculated mean velocity(V,cm/s), cross-sectional area(S,mm2), and flow volume(`Q,ml/beat)、(Q, ml/s). And analyze the correlation between flow parameters of the portal venous system and child-pugh scores and meld scores. Results: SPV of control group was(108.595±20.868)mm2, and it was lower than Child A and Child B(p<0.05);With liver function damaged deepening, `QPV, QPV and VPV has statistically significant(p<0.05). The Vpv of Child C was(11.927±4.602)cm/s, it was lower than that of control group and Child A with significant difference(P<0.05);SSMV of cirrhosis groups were higher than control group(p<0.05), `QSMV, QSMV, VSMV of cirrhosis groups and control group have no significant difference; VSV of Child C was(10.477±7.230)cm/s, it was lower than that of control group and Child A with significant difference(P<0.05). `QPV of Child C was lower than`Q superior mesenteric veins and splenic vein with significant difference(P<0.05). The flow parameters of`QPV, QPV, VPV,`QSV, QSV and VSV were negatively correlated with MELD score(P<0.05), correlation coefficients were-0.468,-0.373,-0.469,-0.514,-0.444,-0.524.Conclusions: 1. As liver function damaged deepening, the SPV increases first, then decreases. With liver function damaged deepening, QPV, QPV, VPV,`QSV, QSV, VSV has a downward trend, and flow parameters of superior mesenteric veins toward a stable value. Therefore, the reduction of blood flow in the portal vein means liver function damaged deepening.2. By analyzing the correlation between portal system hemodynamics and the MELD score, we find that the flow parameters of`QPV, QPV, VPV,`QSV, QSV and VSV were negatively correlated with MELD score, indicating that portal system hemodynamics could be a reference of the evaluation of liver function in patients with cirrhosis. 3. The evaluation of portal system hemodynamics evaluation by PC-MRI Technology is more reliable, and PC-MRI si a reliable non-invasive measurement of blood flow in the portal vein, and it could be used as the reference of assessment of disease progression in patients with cirrhosis...
