Propolis,a Chinese traditional medicine,is a resinous material collected by honeybees from leaf buds and cracks in the bark of various plants and mixed with bee enzymes.It has widely biological properties,such as antiviral,antibacterial,antioxidant,anti-inflammatory and antitumor etc.Propolis is currently widely used in food and health products to prevent disease and improve health.Our previous experiments showed that ethanol extract of of Chinese propolis(EECP)had good antitumor activity.However,the material basis and mechanisms of antitumor of propolis have not been fully understood.In addition,the different extraction methods of propolis also affect the antitumor activity.Therefore,we mainly studied the contents as follows,(1)The comparation of antitumor activities of Chinese propolis and Brazilian propolis;(2)The antitumor effects and mechanisms of EECP and CAPE on breast cancer cells in inflammatory microenvironment;(3)The active components of antitumor activity in Chinese propolis water extract(CPWE);(4)The active components of antitumor activity in ethyl acetate extract of Chinese propolis(Ea EP).The results were as follows:1.Both Chinese propolis and Brazilian propolis had good antitumor activities,and the cytotoxicity of Chinese propolis was higher than that of Brazilian propopolis.2.EECP and CAPE significantly inhibited LPS-stimulated MDA-MB-231 cells proliferation and migration.EECP and CAPE depressed the expression of TLR4 and its downstream signaling molecules such as My D88,IRAK4,TRIF,NF-?B p65.Furthermore,EECP and CAPE activated caspase 3,upregulated LC3-? and decreased p62 level.EECP inhibit inflammation-induced breast cancer cells through activating apoptosis,autophagy and inhibiting TLR4 signaling pathway.3.11 different components were extracted form CPWE(caffeic acid,ferulic acid,isoferulic acid,3,4-dimethoxycinnamic acid,pinobanksin,caffeic acid benzyl ester,caffeic acid phenethyl ester,apigenin,pinocembrin,chrysin,galangin),and their antitumor activities were also tested.The results showed that four phenolic acids hadno significant cytotoxicity on tumor cells but the other seven components significantly inhibited tumor cells proliferation.CPWE and its active components induced tumor cells apoptosis by inhibiting tumor cell migration,activating caspase 3 and promoting ROS production.4.The compounds of I,II,III,IV,V,VI,VII and VIII were obtained by gradient elution of Ea EP.We investigated the antitumor activity of eight isolated components from Ea EP,and found that III,IV and V had strong antitumor effects.The major mechanisms of antitumor activities of different components were by inducing apoptosis and autophagy.
