Translation Of Legal Terms Under Legal Culture Differences

Since China's reform and opening up policy in the year 1978, the economics, culture and trade among China and western countries are becoming more and more frequent. Especially in the culture area, the exchange is even more active, which makes the need for translation increased rapidly. Legal terms translation discussed in this thesis, because of its specialty, requires a higher translation quality. As the core of legal language, legal terms translation is a hot research topic for both Chinese and western translators. The mistranslation or inaccurate translation of legal terms will exert great barriers and obstacles to the communication between China and western countries. What's more, because of the respective legal system and legal culture China and western countries have, the translation of legal terms becomes more challenging.This thesis mainly focuses on the translation of legal terms from the perspective of legal culture differences. Chapter one of this thesis gives a brief introduction to the whole thesis. Chapter two gives a brief introduction to legal terms and legal terms translation as well as the legal culture differences. Chapter three analyzes the differences of legal cultures from the aspects of their origin, legal thoughts, social systems and religions beliefs, their influences on legal terms translation are also mentioned. Chapter four elaborates the dilemma of legal terms translation. Chapter five then puts forward corresponding solutions and specific translation techniques for legal terms translation.On the premise of respecting the legal culture differences, this thesis is in an attempt to overcome the barriers in the process of legal terms translation and to make contributions to the communication of legal cultures between China and western countries.
