Recently, with the continuous and rapid economic development and increasing national power, the social wealth increased significantly. Meanwhile, our county begins to walk into the aging society. And both conscious on health and spending on costs of the individual have improved greatly. The major factors for health are positive mental attitude, fitting exercise,adequate sleep, balancing nutrition and so on. Moreover, China is a country with a large population. Therefore, understanding the implication of nutrition and forming a reasonable eating pattern is of great importance not only to our health but also to the overall population quality.With a long history and splendid culture, there are a large number of classic writings on how to keep healthy, which are worth being carried forward. We also should get knowledge on dietary research from abroad and be conscious of the linkage between eating pattern and some chronic diseases, and adjust to reasonable diet according to individual's conditions. Therefore,we should pay attention to traditional ways of keeping healthy, while acquaint ourselves with advanced research achievement about dietary nutrition.This report is based on the author's translation experience for 2010 US Dietary Guidelines.The source text is a kind of practical writing with its functional characteristics such as informativity and persuasiveness. In order to make the translation correct, smooth,understandable and appropriate, the writer takes functional translation strategy especially Skopos Theory as guidance, and adopts literal translation to keep the sentiments and style of the original,as well as applies the translation criteria faithfulness and smoothness to achieve the translation purpose.The report provides the background of the task, its process and case analysis. The process of translation consists of two phases: comprehension and expression. Generally speaking,comprehension is of foremost importance, and expression is the natural consequence of thorough comprehension. And quality control is also necessary to ensure the successful translation. With case analysis, the writer attempts to study the Chinese translation from the aspects of lexical level and syntactic level, which contains discussion in imperative sentence, impersonal sentence,voice and tense. And the writer hopes it may help other students majoring in MTI to improve their translating skills in this field.
