Research On Daumier's Visual Expression And Its Impact

Honore Daumier is a French painter and also a famous caricaturist. His caricatures are known for satirizing politics and social phenomena. Honore Daumier wasn't regarded as an important painter, but the viewpoint of acknowledging he was a painter was gradually formed after his death.Honore Daumier's caricatures recorded the lives of people of all social hierarchies and showed them most truthfully in an ironic and humorous way. In particular, the unfairness and injustice that the common people at that time have to bear for living was vividly revealed in his works. Honore Daumier was also good at revealing the great disparity between the common people and the nobles in his works and made the most expressive interpretation to the turbulent social reality at that time.The 19th century was just the time when the politics and economy of European countries was changing intensely, wave upon wave of revolution tides for seeking innovations and changes were upsurge, while the turbulence of reform had been impacting the lives of nobles and common people, accordingly a series of problems of social transition were caused. This paper attempts to correctly and in depth discuss Honore Daumier's visual expression and artistic influences with the methods of case study and literature research. By analyzing relevant historical materials, the visual images structured by Honore Daumier are corresponded to the vein of history in the expectation of exploring the critical thinking of social realism paintings and artists' technique of painting expression, and it hopes that in-depth research conclusions and analytical insight could be provided for subsequent studies in Chinese research field of caricature creation.
