Honore-Victorin Daumier(1808-1879)is one of the representative painters of French realism,His oil paintings are of great value in the history of world art.In his oil painting creation,he depicts the characters at the bottom of the society,such as passengers in third-class carriages,poor laundry women,acrobats on the road and so on.The characters vary in identity,but their facial expressions are sad and depressed.This thesis mainly studies the artistic language of the facial expressions of Daumier oil paintings.Through the intense light and shadow,the simple structure and the exaggerated shape,the paper deeply studies the artistic features of the characters in Daumier's oil painting.The first chapter briefly describes Dauoier,s artistic career,as well as the artistic characteristics of exaggeration and simplicity in his oil paintings.The second chapter analyzes the artistic language of expressions in Daumier's oil paintings.Focusing on the three artistic characteristics of "Light and shadow","Simplification" and "Exaggeration"on the face of the characters,the author compares Daumier with Courbet and Millet.The third chapter is about personal creation,called the series of "survival".This chapter takes the choice and refinement of the facial expressions of the characters as the entry point to deeply analyze the artistic language of the facial expressions of the characters in the creation.
