Firstly, the author has made an introduction to the plot of Turandot as well as the combination of Chinese and western cultures. Next, the author has compared the two versions of Turandot, including its background, props and characters, ect. Finally, based on the comparison, the author has reflected on the influence on Western and Chinese opera under the cultural combination. The opera Turandot is the last work of the Italian verismo opera composer. Based on the fairy tale of a beautiful Chinese princess, he added the Chinese folk song Jasmine Flower to it to be the music image of her. He also applied quite a lot Chinese pentatonic scales to it. Puccini is a representative figure of verismo opera who often focuses on the life of poor people and has a deep understanding of their hardship. His work reveals their real life condition. From Puccini's music, we can sense the beauty of the combination of Chinese and western music, which explains the saying-there is no boundary between different music. But the western people don't understand the Chinese elements completely. From the comparison we can find that in their eyes, that is what China and the imperial palace are like. Actually, it is not true. In Chinese people's eyes, many western people appreciate Chinese elements differently. That is why the comparison is necessary, to reveal the beauty of the combination of cultural and musical elements as well as the influence.
