A Report On Translating Cultural Landscapes Of Shaoshan Scenic Spot

"Beautiful China,2014-Year of Smart Travel" has promoted the booming tourism of Shaoshan Scenic Spot, the hometown of Chairman Mao Zedong. Attracted by gorgeous natural sceneries and rich cultural landscapes in Shaoshan, an increasing number of overseas tourists have been to visit the place. Therefore, the English version of Shaoshan Scenic Spot plays a vital role in the promotion of the "red" culture tourism and the soft power of Chinese culture.On the basis of "Cultural Landscapes of Shaoshan Scenic Spot", the report consists of four parts, including introduction, translation process, case analysis and conclusion. Firstly, the report introduces the background, significance and theoretical guidance-cross-cultural translation. Next, the report describes preparation before translation, procedures of translation and proofreading of translation as well as self-examination after translation. In addition, case analysis is the main part of the report, which makes a detailed analysis in major translation skills, including transliteration and explanation, addition of implied cultural connotation, omission of redundant information, conversion of voices and parts of speech, linear translation, inverted translation and combination of sentence reconstruction. The third part aims to convey cross-cultural connotations of the source text under the theoretical guidance of "cross-cultural translation" by exemplifying typical sentences; and moreover, this part describes the difficulties in the translation practice, including analyzing the pragmatic meaning, processing the cultural information and conveying original images and cultural connotations. In the last part, the author summarizes gains and limitations, and looks forward to the prospect of English translation in "red" culture tourism.In order to better promote the "red" culture tourism with Chinese characteristics to foreigners, the report discusses the cross-cultural translation in "Cultural Landscapes of Shaoshan Scenic Spot". In this aspect, it gives a reference to the English translation study of tourism texts in cultural landscapes. At present, there are more English versions of natural sceneries than those of cultural landscapes of Shaoshan, and the latter is the main focus of this report. Therefore, it is of great significance to conduct the translation with the combination of natural sceneries and "red" cultural landscapes to present the peculiar enchantment of Chinese culture to foreign tourists.
