With the advancement of China?s international status in recent years, Chinese plays a more and more significant role in international communication. At the same time, comparative study of Chinese and English passives has received much more attention with the growth of political, economic and cultural contacts between West and China. Abundant accomplishment of comparative study between Chinese and English passives has been made in the field. On the basis of previous studies, this paper focuses on the Chinese language and makes a comparison between these two languages on the aspect of syntactic structure and pragmatic function. A Chinese and English passives questionnaire was designed and applied to survey American college students, which could reflect the difference of them in many aspects. What else, an error analysis on Chinese passives and measures to prevent them.This paper structure mainly divides into four major Chapters: Chapter One maintains the general introduction about Chinese and English passives and error analysis researches. Chapter Two undertakes a comparative study of Chinese and English passives, which including syntactic structure and pragmatic function. First, the syntactic structure comparison can be divided into two different kinds: one is ?Marked Passive? and the other is ?Unmarked Passive?. Second, the pragmatic function comparison focuses on emotional color and conditions of usage. Chapter Three is an analysis of a questionnaire about Chinese and English passives, which including eight typical error types and two question types(true or false question and translation). Chapter Four is an error analysis on Chinese passives and measures to prevent them.
