A Report On The Translation Of English News Into Chinese

This is a practice report on the translation of English news. The task is part of an internship in a technology and information company which is called Mobo Tap. The intern's job is about international news translating and editing, which needs to deal with different kinds of English news for the company's product----dolphin browser. The news covers the fields of politics, finance and society. There are hot topics in which the target audiences interested being selected as translation materials.In this translation practice report, Nord's translation-orientated text analysis concept is taken as the theoretic basis to explore the application of internal and external factors in the news translation. In the process of translation, Nord tends to agree with the functional theory of translation: a translator should not only pursue the absolute equality. The equality should be decided by the purpose of the target text, which is the most important factor in the process of translation. In order to avoid misinterpreting the the meaning of the original text, Nord puts forward the concept of “function with loyalty”. The translator should take the original text, the environment of translation and the initiator into consideration apart from just considering the purpose of the target text. When stating the text analysis model, Nord adds the factors of text analysis, including both the external factors and internal factors of a text to the previous theory. And for different texts, the translator should choose different factors to analyze the original text and then make decision on different translation strategies. Strategies of amplification, transfer, deletion and basic literal translation or free translation are all adopted on different occasions.During the process of translation, the translator adopts appropriate strategies and methods to deliver the meaning of the original text to the target audiences.This report consists of four chapters. Chapter one is the description of the translation task. In this chapter, the background information is presented. Chapter two is a description of the translation process, which includes pre-translation preparation,translation process and post-translation quality control. Chapter three is about the case analysis----the major part of the report. Theoretical basis, difficulties in translation and translation strategies are discussed in this part. Chapter four is a summary of the translation practice.News translation has a positive influence on the communication among people living in different countries. The translation practice report serves as a reference for others who are engaged in news translation.
