A Translation Project Report Of The Global Opportunity In Online Outsourcing (Chapter 1-3)

This is a translation project report for The Global Opportunity in Online Outsourcing. The source text, published in the official website of the World Bank in June, 2015, is co-authored by many experts. The report is a typical economic text, which aims to provide inputs for government and development practitioners who may potentially leverage global opportunities for Online Outsourcing. The language characteristics of this book is concise and objective, reflecting features of economic texts. But without the introduction of translation theory it is difficult for translators to translate a economic study in the readers' position. The theoretical foundation of this translation project is the Skopos Theory. The Skopos theory stresses the role played by readers during the process of translation, which can be seen as a basic principle for translators to concentrate on target readers.Therefore, under the guidance of Skopos theory, this report attempts to make an analysis of the translation process to Chinese versions of The Global Opportunity in Online Outsourcing to provide an appropriate translation version for target readers. The key of the report is to select appropriate translation strategy and methods for the project in light of the language characteristics of the economic text. The translator discusses and analyzes the translation methods and case studies, including adjustment of sentence structure, division of long and complicated sentences, the use of literal translation and liberal translation, conversion and amplification in the translation process. At last, based on the analysis above, the translator concludes the report and points out the importance of Skopos theory on the translation of economic text.
