This is a translation report, which uses Mummy told me not to tell(Chapter1-4)as the source text.Mummy told me not to tell is a long novel published in 2010,written by British authoress Cathy Glass. Two students translate the novel together.I translate the first three chapters and part of chapter four, and write this translation report accordingly. The main line of this novel is as follows:The protagonist,Reece who was so badly influenced by his family that he has already passed through the hands of four different carers in four weeks. However, the foster carer Cathy through her occupational belief and spirits, turned the abused child into a polite, active one and was well received by the people around him.Other stories complement the main line to complete the whole line. Moreover, the translation difficulty of this novel is professional-term narration. The characteristic of this novel is one-angle and first person narration. The four chapters chosen are at the very core of this novel, especially at the ending of Chapter three which is the introduction of the protagonist for this novel---the author has come to the purpose of writing. The author narrates things happened in her daily fostering work. There are four parts in this translation report:Part one is the background description, including the brief introduction of author, summarizing of the novel, description of the selected text, and the target and significance of the translated text.Cathy Glass is one of the bestselling authors in Sunday Times. She has deep influence on British child literature even the world child literature. So translating her novel is a big challenge for the translator, especially without any Chinese version at present.Part two is the preparation before and during translation, and the time arrangement for the translation project.Part three is text analysis, including translation difficulties and the translation methods for dealing with the difficulties. The report is based on Yan Fu's three-character translation principle to deal with the difficult points, and adopts other translation methods, such as following the original syntactic order, reinventing sentence structure, amplification, and so on.Part four is the translation experience gained from the translating and the unsolved issues.
