A Report On Translation Of The History Of Medieval World(Excepts)

This is a translation report taking Norton’s The History of Medieval World(excepts) as the source text. Under the careful guidance of her supervisor, the author undertook and completed the translation work from the twenty-first to twenty-sixth chapters of the third part of The History of Medieval World.The concept of Translational Writing Theory was firstly proposed in 2006 by the Prof. Yang Shizhuo. The innovation of the concept lies in the way of applying the Chinese writing principles of “perception-thought operation-expression” as well as Western grammatology, exploring the importance of writing ability in the process of translation. It aims to work out ways to improve translation skills and to better guide translation process.This report consists of four parts. The first part is description of the translation project, including its background, content and significance. The second part is introduction of the theoretical foundation of the translation practice—the Translational Writing Theory, including the feasibility of the application of translational writing theory to the selected text. The third part is translation process description, consisting of the pre-translation process, the translation process and the post-translation process. In translation process, the author introduces the application of computer-assisted translation(CAT) also. The last part is conclusion, summarizing the significance of the translation practice and the inspirations for future work.
