Research On The Thesis Status Of Overseas Students Majoring In Master Of Teaching Chinese To Speakers Of Other Language

In recent years, foreign students who are learning Chinese language and culture are increasing, and those who are studying for Master's degree majored in MTCSOL are growing steadily. Many experts and scholars have been discussing and researching the major current cultivation status, curriculum, and etc. However, there is less research conducted on the degree dissertation status. The degree thesis is an important part of the MTCSOL's requirements, in which indicating whether graduate students can graduate and gain a master's degree in MTCSOL or not. Studying the current situation of the master theses of the MTCSOL students is in order to improve the MTCSOL students' development program, the teaching activities, and to provide more references to students own level's improvement.In this study, the subjects of 142 MTCSOL students' theses were analyzed, concluding that the thesis topics students chose having the following characteristics: 1. Students have a strong sense of contrast and cross-cultural perspective, in which their theses have obvious national characteristics. 2. Students' theses in terms of thematic research and teaching scheme are in wide range of chosen topics but in short of research depth. 3. Students' theses topic category has to do with the convergence of the research direction; the more difficult topics were often chosen to be avoided.In this study, survey questionnaires of 36 MTCSOL's students and ten students' supervisors representing the original texts of the students' theses were analyzed, the factors that influence students while writing their theses were investigated, and the kinds of problems that existed in the students' theses were figured out, drawing the following conclusions: 1. the level of the Chinese language has an effect on the students' topic selection and writing of the thesis. The undergraduate major background has also an influence on the topic and on the writing of the thesis but with minimal effect. 2. The internship experience has a major impact on the students' selection of the thesis' topic. In fact, there were a close integration between students' theses and teaching practical experience. 3. Students learning attitude, the Chinese bases and the thesis topic are all considered important factors that influence the completion of the thesis. 4. The Students' daily assignments single form, the sub-item skill training programs of listening, speaking, reading and writing are not balanced. 5. It is necessary to set up a students' thesis writing instruction tutorial course. 6. There are many problems in terms of students' expressing in the Chinese language, the literature review, the research methods, the logical interrelation, the composition writing style, the survey questionnaire structure, as well as mark pattern format and etc.Finally, according to the survey results, from the perspective of improving the graduate master degree students' majored in MTCSOL cultivation program, and of improving the teaching activities and the students' level, some suggestions and feasible countermeasure were provided.
