Translator's Adaption And Selection From The Perspective Of Eco-Translatology—A Comparative Study Of The English And German Versions Of Huozhe

The novel Huozhe was written in 1992 by Yuhua, a Chinese author. It was published in 1993 and has been translated into several foreign languages. The English and German versions of Huozhe are highly commended by the readers. The English version of Huozhe was translated by Michael Berry, the German version by Ulrich Kautz.This thesis is a comparative study of the English and German translation of Huozhe from the perspective of eco-translatology. Eco-translatology is an emerging theory that combines translation with ecology. It views the translation process as a process of a translator's selective adaptation to certain translational eco-environment. From the perspective of eco-translatology, this thesis compares the selective adaptation of the English and German translators during the translation process of Huozhe.This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter is an introduction of the motive of writing this thesis. The second chapter briefly reviews the theory of eco-translatology and the previous studies. The third chapter introduces Huozhe and its author Yuhua, the English and German translations and their translators. The fourth chapter compares and analyzes the selective adaptation of the English and German translators during the process of translation. The last chapter is the conclusion of the thesis.
