CEOSCW(Chinese Exquisite Open Sharing Courseware) is one of the hot research areas recently. This thesis is a research result of problem-cantered inquiry, which details the course design of College English Course in six universities in China.The six universities are Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Wuhan University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Northwest Polytechnical University. In the research process, several research methods are adopted. The methods include Survey Research Method, Comparison Research Method and Literature Research Method. Firstly, reading and collecting the documents and files for declaration of CEOSCW on sites, and watching the video courseware of six universities. Then, the present situation of College English Course(CEOSCW) will be put forward. Thirdly, on the basis of analyzing the similarities and differences of six College English Courses in different universities, a lot of efforts has been made to find out the existing problems of six College English Courses in different universities. Fourthly, exploring the potential reasons of existing problems and optimized suggestions will be proposed.To sum up, there exist four major problems in the course design in the College English Course in six universities.First of all, the curriculum goals are mechanical. What's more, the curriculum contents are monotonous. Then, the organizing methods of College English Course are dumb.Lastly, the course evaluation is unilateral.Then come to the reasons for the course design of the College English course. The curriculum goal is easily influenced by students, society, disciplinary development. However, the curriculum contents are greatly limited by the perspectives,textbook versions and stereoscopic development of textbooks.Anyway,the reasons for the organizing methods of College English Course can be explained in three aspects: the misleading of IT(Information and Communications Technology)education; teachers professional development is helpless; ignorance of traditional teaching methods. The reasons of the course evaluation can be attributed to three points: the imbalance between teaching and learning; the supervision and management is in imperfection; the incongruity of evaluation subject and its object.At the end of the thesis, four optimized suggestions will be proposed. Firstly, updating the designing concept of curriculum goal,even the essence of course design in the west can be absorbed. Secondly, optimizing the curriculum contents from different levels, such as its adaptability, stereoscopic teaching materials, the range of autonomous learning. And then, developing the organizing methods from the perspective of media, environment, activity. Lastly, innovating the evaluation methods, for example, performance assessment and e-portfolio assessment can be introduced into the evaluation process.This thesis is divided into six parts. The preface part is about the background, purposes, significance and theory foundation of this research and it also focuses on the definition of core concept and the literature review both at home and abroad. The second part explores the present situation of College English Course(CEOSCW).The next part unscrambles and analyzes the problems, summarizing the common difficulties encountered in the course design. Still the next part is responsible for explaining the reasons that affect the course design of College English Course(CEOSCW).The fourth part tries to give suggestions to upgrade and optimize the course design of College English Course(CEOSCW).In the end, a conclusion of the current study is drawn to finalize the entire thesis.
