This translation project selected Chapter 13 from Discovering the Humanities edited by Henry M. Sayre and his colleagues. The title of Chapter 13 is the Working Class and the Bourgeoisie – the Conditions of Modern Life. This article belongs to humanistic education, which adopts the combination of graphics and text, with vivid and artistic tongue to showcase the flavor of history, culture and art around the world in different periods Reading this paper, readers can broaden their horizons, improve their artistic taste and spirits. At present, this paper is not well-known in China, and the author of this thesis thinks it a very meaningful project to translate it into Chinese.The main content of this report is divided into four parts. The first part is about the general introduction of this translation project, including project background, objectives and significance: the source text belongs to informative texts, aiming at spreading the knowledge of humanistic knowledge, enhancing reader’s cognitive ability of historical and artistic appreciation. The second part is the introduction of the source text, including author introduction, main contents, the assessment of source text and language style: the author Henry M. Sayre introduced history, culture, art and so on across different periods in Asia, Africa, and Europe. The book, with elegant words, and strong artistic flavor, is much welcomed as soon as it is published. The third part introduces the theoretical basis used in the process of translation, the translation difficulties and methods: in the process of translation, the translation theory is the Skopos, and the professional terminology, historical and cultural background is difficulties in the process of translation and translation methods are mainly amplification, omission, translation. The fourth part is the summary of the report: Lessons the author obtained during the translation process and problems still to be solved.
