This paper is a translation report. The translation material is Chapter 5 of The Renewable Revolution. This book was published by Earthscan in the United Kingdom and the United States in 2010, which does not have a Chinese version yet. In recent years, the climate change, global warming and worsening environment have caused extensive concern from the public. To a large extent, all these problems are the consequences of the use of nonrenewable energy. However, people's insufficient understanding and rejection of renewable energy have become the primary obstacle to its global popularization. In order to make people have a better understanding about renewable energy and combine with her own interests, the translator chose Chapter 5 of this book as her translation material and research object. The overall structure of this paper is:general introduction to the translation project, finding problems, solving problems, summarizing experience. This report introduces the background of the translation project, theoretic guidance and significance of the translation program. Introduction of the author of the book, general content of the source text, language characteristics and some pre-translation preparation are also included. The difficulties encountered in the translation process as well as the translation strategies and methods used during the translating are analyzed. There is comparative analysis of proper names of people from different countries. The translation of the passive voice sentences and long sentences is addressed with examples. Under the guidance of Nida's functional equivalence, this paper explains how to use translation strategies, such as conversion, amplification and omission, division, restructuring to deal with words, phrases and sentences of the source text to produce a natural translation version and give the target readers the same understanding with the readers of the original. Thus, the equivalent translation is achieved. The problems to be solved, major findings and the enlightenment for future's translation study are summarized at the end of this paper. This translation practice gives the translator a great opportunity to practice her translation skills and to understand more about renewable energy. Besides, the translator thinks that some knowledge in the specified discipline, skillful use of different languages, and a conscientious attitude are the necessary requirements for a good translation.
