This paper is a translation practice report. The source text is Chapter VIII of New Energy Concept, which can be classified as international publicity material. This book, with a global view, investigates the issue of China's energy security as objectively and comprehensively as possible from a brand-new perspective. In Chapter VIII,“Overseas Investment: ‘Going Global' Is Not Equal to ‘Bringing Back'”,the author mainly explains China's overseas energy investment and the relationship between China's internationalized enterprises and the Chinese government. This report aims to explore the translation strategies of international publicity materials. The international publicity text is characterized by objectivity and accuracy. In the translation, the content of the target text should not only be complete and accurate, but also be readable and comprehensive.Guided by functional equivalence theory, the translator discusses the problems and difficulties encountered in the translation process from the aspects of lexical equivalence, syntactic equivalence, textual equivalence and stylistic equivalence. For example,at the lexical level, the translator has to verify the names of people, books and organizations, and repeat the verification and check of the economic terms and big figures;at the syntactic level, the translator has to pay attention to the analysis and transformation between active and passive voices, the use of direct and indirect quotations and the translation of non-subject sentences;and at the textual and stylistic levels,it is necessary to be clear how to deal with the cohesion of the context, the logic relationship and transition between sentences and paragraphs, and how to make the style of the target text as consistent as that of the source text.Through the study and discussion of these problems, the translator hopes to provide some feasible translation techniques and lessons to the translators of other international publicity materials to improve the translation quality of such texts.
