A Report On Translation Of Course Description

This is a report on translation of Course Description Majoring in English & Musicology of Yuncheng University.Yuncheng University and Northern Arizona University struggle to discuss a cooperation program.The course description of English major and Musicology major needs to be translated into English to accomplish the information exchange of these two universities.The translator is under the commission of Director Zhang Qingwen who manages the Foreign Affairs Office in Yuncheng University to take the practice.During the process of translation,the translator attaches importance to the following points.The first one is curriculum translation.Curriculum belongs to the professional translation.The second one is the translation of course description.The genre of course description is exposition.Exposition is explanation to explain the objective character and nature of things,or to clarify the occurrence and development of things.Therefore,the translation version should conform to the features of the exposition.Under the guidance of functional equivalence theory and the informative function theory,the translator has learned how to translate the curriculum and course description.Literal translation,amplification and omission are adopted to deal with the curriculum translation.Following the original syntactic order,reinventing sentence structures and semantic explication are used to translate the course description.
