It reflects his particular pursuit for a good humanity.Mr. Shen, deeply influenced by Xiang-Chu Culture, had grown up in Xiangxi, where the people were honest, had powerful sense of justice, worshipped the nature and God, loved life, pursued freedom, and had full of vitality of life. Deeply influenced by Xiang-Chu Culture, Mr. Shen, a native of Xiangxi, was also the same. However, when the young Shen Congwen joined the army, left Xiangxi and came to the city, he felt the indifference, hypocrisy and selfishness of the city people. By the impact of Western civilization, the city people began to abandon the original spiritual home and pursue constantly material life. At the same time, the spirit was suppressed, the humanity began to distort, and the life was also lack of original vitality. When Mr. Shen was returning Xiangxi and was eager to relive the past memory of the Xiangxi land, he realized that Xiangxi had also changed in China's modernization process. He was sad to find that the humanity in the countryside had also undergone a distortion with erosion of urban civilization, which caused him extreme anxiety for the human survival status.Based on people's survival situation under the background of modernization, the first part of the thesis makes discussing with the Xiang Chu culture as a starting point. Through the introduction of Xiangxi geographical customs and Xiang-Chu culture, the first part analyzes the influence of Xiang-Chu culture on Shen Congwen's literature creation, and researches on Shen Congwen's thinking of humanity and literature creation, thus showing the people's anxiety for existence in Shen Congwen's works in the background of modernization.With the forming process of Shen Congwen's view of life as a clue, and with the analysis and classification of the specific characters in his works, the second part compares the simple human nature of Xiangxi people before the modernization with the distortion of humanity after the modernization, analyzes the anxiety status of human survival, researches on the causes of bizarrerie of social life, then explores Shen Congwen's unique view of modern life:In modern life the divinity and devilism in the human nature need to be united-the relationship between rationality and sensibility are not antagonistic or exclusive, but they should be harmony, only by fully integration of them can the redemption of life be completed.Thus, through the analysis of different characters, the third part of this work gradually builds up the Xiangxi world which Mr. Shen Congwen showed us:Based on the original human vitality and compared with the structure between "urban" and "rural", "time" and "timlessness", he analyzed the destruction of the original human vitality caused by influx of modern civilization, and also analyzed degeneration and collapse of human nature. Through the literary creation of Xiangxi literary world, he constantly guided people to find the true sense of habitat in life.
