Those who have a good sense of humor can better resolve the embarrassment,deal with anxiety,change the way of thinking,and relive stress,along with better mental health.The research maintains that the sense of humor is an integrated ability of cognizance,emotion and behavior,which contains four levels from low to high of understanding,appreciating,expressing and creating humor.The study invited junior middle school students as the research object to explore the relation-ship between the sense of humor and mental health with questionnaire survey.Firstly,according to Hierarchy Theory of sense of humor,the study had a revision on Junior Middle School Student Multilevel Sense of Humor Scale.Through opened-questionnaire,initial test,retest and measurement of the validity and credibility,we formed the final questionnaire.Secondly,we explored the relationship between the sense of humor and its all layers with mental health and its different dimensions by path analysis.Last but not least,we designed a set of mental health courses to cultivate the sense of humor for junior middle school students,discussing their impacts on individual humor and mental health.The conclusions are as follows:(1)The revision on Junior Middle School Student Multilevel Sense of Humor Scale can be regarded as a kind of effective measurement tool to test junior middle school students' sense of humor with high reliability and validity.(2)The level of appreciating humor had a negative relationship with paranoia.And the level of expressing humor correlated negatively with paranoia,Interpersonal tension,sensitivity,depression,anxiety,emotional imbalance and mental health.Moreover,it showed a significant negative correlation between self-esteem and the total score of humor and its various levels.(3)There was significant positive correlation between positive coping style and the total score of humor and its various levels.Negative coping style was notably positively correlated with creating humor,while hardly with the sense of humor and its' diffident levels.Besides,there was significant negative correlation between self-esteem and the sense of humor and its various levels.(4)The girls showed more serious obsession,depression and anxiety,less mental health and the ability of creating humor,while better appreciating humor than boys.(5)The junior middle school students in Grade 1 performed higher points than those who in Grade 3 in obsession,hostility,Interpersonal tensions and emotional imbalance,while lower points in depression,anxiety,academic stress,self-esteem,expressing humor and the total score of humor.(6)Humor had an impact on mental health through positive coping style and self-esteem.(7)The training courses contributed to the development of the humor and mental health.
