The report is based on the translator's practice translation of the selected chapters of a book titled Franchising:The Business Strategy that Changed the World. This book elaborates ten different world-known entrepreneurs and presents an in-depth look at these companies, but just a few chapters has been chosen to serve as the translating materials, namely, the preface; chapter Five:Holiday Inn, Worldwide:Nobody Understands the Trails and Travails of Franchisees Like Holiday Inn and chapter Seven McDonald's Corporation:The Franchisor that Has Influenced the Culture of the World..The report has been written under the guidance of Peter Newmark's translation theory of communicative and semantic approach, which was also the theoretical basis of the translation practice. Adequate cases have been analyzed and discussed at the linguistic, cultural and pragmatics levels to illustrate how to apply the theory to practice for a translation that the impact of the target language on the target reader should be the same as that of the source language on the source readers. Translation techniques such as amplification, omission and conversion also have been used in the translating process. The translator hopes, by sharing the whole translation process, problems encountered and techniques employed, to provide some valuable lessons and worthy information for the translators who might be interested in the translating of business English, and more importantly, to improve the translator's own translation skills. The translator of this report, in the end, had made a quality control program to ensure the quality of the translation and also, the translator had also pointed out some reflections, experiences and lessons obtained form the project. The whole project had laid a solid foundation for the translator's future translation work and hopefully can inspire at least one person interested in business translation or franchising.
