Research On Ethical Issues Of The Contemporary Empty Nester

China has the largest number of elderly people all over the world. As a part of aging population, the number of the empty nest elderly has been very large too. The society, the financial condition and the government have had great pressures because of the large number of ethical issues caused by the empty nest elderly. Meanwhile, this situation has put forward new requirements for the people's moral standard and the society's moral atmosphere in the field of ethics. Therefore, we have a burning need of the studies on the issues of the empty nest elderly. This thesis uses the methodologies of documentation and case analysis to expound the current situation of the empty nest elderly and study the corresponding ethical issues in order to arouse people's concerns for the current issues caused by the situation.This thesis consists of four parts. The first part gives a brief introduction to the purpose and significance of the study, as well as the literature review at home and abroad, the methodologies and innovation points of the study. Part two presents an overview on the issues of the empty nest elderly. This part mainly contains the definition and the categories of the empty nest elderly, the ethical principles of caring for the elderly as well as the necessity of the study. Part three is about the manifestation of the issues and the reason analysis from the perspectives of the change of filial piety concept, the transition of social, the coming of age,the changes in family structuer and the situation of the elderly. The last part provides the main solutions of the issues caused by the empty nest elderly:change the traditional concept of filial piety; building a new pension model of the state; give adequate family care and maintain their physical and mental health.As a the vulnerable group at the edge of the society, the empty nest elderly are in the predicament of spiritual dryness and life helplessness, which may cause ethical issues that can bring the society, the financial condition and the government great pressures. We are now in the critical period of accelerated development of China's aging. The thesis aims to arouse the attention of scholars to these issues and call the actions of really caring and loving the empty nest elderly, so that more and more elderly people can spend a happy life in an atmosphere of respect for the elderly.
