In2011, the sixth census, the population aged60and over accounted for13.26percent of the country’s total population, increased by2.93percentage points than the2000census, the population aged65and above accounted for8.87%, an increase of1.91percentage points more than in2000. This data shows that the aging process in China is gradually accelerating. At present, China’s aging population characteristics of the empty nest, with the increasing number of urban empty nester, this group is deserving of our attention. Now, the memory of the living room of empty nester in more problems and inconvenience to their lives brought about, in order to improve their quality of life, we need to improve the indoor environment of the empty nester.This article is to explore how to solve the empty nester’s room environment issues and describe in detail the dangers and difficulties encountered indoor of them, only the elderly in a safe and comfortable environment, can be more conducive to physical and psychological aspects of health.This paper defines the research from65to85year-old self-care ability, and home care of the city empty-nesters. Their causes varied, but similar to the status quo of life. The paper focus on the functional and the safety design principle, as far as possible to consider comfort needed of the elderly. The elderly in the living room there will be demand for entertainment and communication activities, which is designed to also be concerned. Papers from the view of professionally designed to explore the residence problem of the elderly, to ensure independently living, respect for the saving habits of the elderly, lower design costs, and modest improvement in the life of the elderly. By improving the indoor environment can ease the loneliness of the elderly, to enable them to leisure and healthy life, in order to achieve the purpose of improve the quality of life for the elderly. Some of the issues cannot be solved in the current, hope that will be gradually resolved with the social development. Empty nester living room will be involved in more intelligent elements, certainly able to help more and more elderly independent living.
