With the advancement of industrialization,modernization and urbanization,modern medical technology developed to average life expectancy and declining fertility,empty-nesters has expanded steadily,and takes on certain characteristics of the times.Compared with non-empty-nesters,empty-nest elderly access to social support and care for significantly less,"empty nest" this particular situation increases the risk of personal safety and health of the elderly,making it at the time to take care of themselves are subject to restrictions,which greatly reduces the quality of life of empty-nesters,which overshadow old age.Although the community has paid attention to empty nesters,but mostly in a negative perspective of objective physical and mental problems and an explanation for its existence,the focus of attention on social neglect of empty-nesters,while ignoring the empty-nesters to the neglect of their own physical and mental health.This study tried to self neglect as the stand and starting point of attention empty-nesters self neglect situation,thorough discussion of empty nest elderly themselves ignored the reasons behind the phenomenon.There are two aspects in this study: Questionnaire Survey and Qualitative Research.The first study: in early check out large related literature and for preliminary interview of based Shang,determine effect empty nest elderly self ignored of two a main factors is understanding social support and coping style,using the research tools of Elderly self-Neglect volume table,Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire,Multidimensional Scale of Percieved Social Support,to found on 679elderly(349 are empty nest elderly,and 330 are non-empty nest elderly)for sample and for statistics analysis;the second study,Grounded Theory Approach.Select neglected scores on a questionnaire about yourself at the extreme values of 11empty-nesters in-depth interviews,research content and results.Two parts of the results are as follows:(1)The total scores of self-neglect of the non-empty-nester elderly's was lower than that of empty-nester elderly,ruralempty-nest elderly degrees than urban;(2)Self-neglect empty-nesters from high to low is: social interaction,health,lifestyle,living environment;(3)Self-neglect in empty nest elderly age,education,place of residence,retired,living conditions,marital status,monthly income and other demographic variables,there are significant differences.But the gender differences are not obvious;(4)The physical and mental health status and social status of empty nest elderly self neglect there is a significant difference,in General,more physical and mental health,social interactions as possible of empty nest elderly self neglect is lower;(5)Empty-nesters in perceived social support score and each dimension was significantly lower than non-empty-nesters,using positive coping were significantly lower than those of non-empty-nesters,but there were no significant differences between the two on the passive;(6)The coping strategies and perceived social support self neglect to empty-nesters have negative predictive power,or empty-nesters to learn more social support,more positive way,self neglect the less.Compared to passive coping,actively coping with greater predictive power.In social interactions,health care and living environment on the dimension,support has a wide range of other prediction;in lifestyle and self neglect family support more broadly on the score prediction;(7)The factors and results have been conducted Grounded Theory Approach,which showed personality factor,conditions,role,self awareness and background affect self-neglect of the empty nester.In the five factors,personality factors is the key factors influencing the empty nester's self-neglect,and the other four worked on self-neglect of elderly by personality factor.
