Translation Practice Report On Sound Ink Technology & Alternative Media

This translation practice report is based on small-scale translation project SoundInk Technology & Alternative Media accomplished by the author during the 2014 summer internship in Tianjin Hi-tech Investment Management Co. Beijing Sound Ink Technology Company was a venture capital investment project by the Tianjin Hi-tech Investment Management Co. This report is based on Chinese-English translation of marketing materials of Beijing SoundInk Technology Company. The translation project was independently accomplished by the author.In the process of translation, the author has exactly analyzed the target audience, so as to reveal the fundamental goals of this project. The author also reasonably arranged the daily work and reported the work progress to the client in light of requested time limits. In the process, translator should conduct a detailed analysis about each section of the source text, and the target text of the introduction of function and operating method of the software should be concise and clear. The target text of the ad section should be vivid and attractive. In general, in order to ensure fluency and smoothness of the target text, the translator, according to different sections of the source text, based on Skopos theory, has adopted corresponding translation techniques, such as detection and specification of the latent meaning, supplementation, omission, substitution of sentences in the source text. Through split and integration of sentence group, translator achieved fluency and elegance of the target text. Translator also reasonably dealt with the issues, such as person, tone and emotion. During the whole process of translation, translator shall abide by the professional qualities of translation industry. All of the above-mentioned translation techniques will be respectively demonstrated in the following case studies.The main purpose of this translation task for the author is to probe into translation techniques and methods of marketing materials which also have a dense characteristic of new technology. Through this translation project, the author aims to accumulate R&D knowledge on popular payment software, gain translation experience of this kind of text and improve author's translation skills. The author accomplished this translation practice report from four sections which are description of the translation project, description of the translation process, translation case studies and summary on translation practice. This translation report is a combination of translation theory and translation practice by the author, and it is also a review and conclusion on this translation project by the author. Due to the rapid development of Internet industry, this kind of text translation which connects the technology and advertising function together has broad market prospects. The reporter also hopes that the practice report can provide reference for the majority of the translators.
