John Corigliano is one of the mainstream international composer contemporary in US.He inherited the classical music tradition and absorbed the modern composing techniques. His works are moving just like the romantic music. His works are modernity and distinct characteristics of the times. Theorists called for “New Romanticism” music style. But he does not admit it. So the “compromise” musical style is widely accepted for him. In 2003, he adapted music from the film "The red violin" to concerto for violin and orchestra "The red violin". His composition is not constrained by some techniques and not followed any school.He widely absorbed various genres of writing techniques, and through unique way top resent again. The author through careful study, discusses how John Corigliano learn from each others. His characteristics are professional and practical, traditional and modern. The musical structure has variation, rondo, the trilogy type and so on. The pitch organization has application of interval sequence, application of the core material, application of The Twelve-tone Serial and so on. The performance techniques of solo violin have a single tone, more than one tone and modern techniques etc. The orchestration of concerto has violin and band answer type, foreground and background alternating, emphasis on color contrast, the independence of the parts to make violins and band phase difference etc. The author did the research and summary of John Corigliano's musical style and combining technical methods of“professional” and “popularization”.
