As an agglomeration of aestheticism in the 19th century, Oscar Wilde owns varieties of works but not too many. The early stage of his writing, he focuses on criticism and fairy tale, and later he focuses on novel and drama. As a representative of aestheticism, the influence of Wilde on the British literature is significant. He tries to separate art from morality, and manifests this in his works. However, many of his works clash with his theory of literature and art intentionally or unintentionally. This is not only manifest in theoretical method but also particularly in practice. Wilde tries to create a pure and beautiful artistic image which is totally irrelevant to morality and livelihood. While, the protagonist is sure to get the moral sanction or ruined finally to show his determination to pursue the pure and beautiful art. Wilde's works don't neglect the question of reality, on the contrary, have a critical attitude towards the reality, which is correspond to the morality. His artistic theory is mutual contradiction with artistic practice. This paper discusses Wilde's principle of aestheticism and artistic practice mainly on three parts including introduction, body and conclusion.The exordium part mainly elaborates the reason for choosing this topic, the research status and research methods. The body part expounds the characteristics of Wilde's aestheticism and art practice in three parts. The first chapter focuses on fairy tale and analyzes the category of fairy tale beyond arts that does not care about reality and morality. The second chapter focuses on the novel The Picture of Dorain Gray and analyzes the contradiction between the spirit and moral that expressed by this novel. The third chapter takes the drama Salome as the main part to analyzes the pursuit of sensory and ocular beauty. The epilogue part mainly summarize the characteristics of Wilde s aestheticism of art practice embodied in Oscar Wilde's fairy tale The Picture of Dorain Gray and the drama Salome.
