Since the 1960 s,Wole Soyinka's works have inspired many foreign researchers' enthusiasm,131437 papers and 132 monographs on him and his literature were published.Hence,a specialized domain of Soyinka research has been formed abroad. However, after more than twenty years' study in China, there is still great limitation in this field mainly because the abundant theoretical resources in his works are ignored. This dissertation investigated two key words,“Nativism”and “Subalternity”,purporting to summarize his theory of post-colonialism by examining his main plays.Wole Soyinka's theory of post-colonialism came into being when the African literature history came across with the world literature. Therefore, this dissertation being based on this historical context, the author tried to summarize his theory of post-colonialism,all of which were premised on the previous researches and studies. The dissertation is composed of five parts. The first part is about introduction, which contains the background information, the research design, method and significance. In the second part, the author summarized the foreign and domestic researches on Soyinka. In the third and fourth parts, the main contents and features of Soyinka's theory of post-colonialism were discussed respectively under the context of Nigerian social changes and cultural backgrounds, where “nativism” and “subalternity” were pinpointed as the key words of his theory. At the end,the author pointed that Soyinka's literary theory was inalienable with his literary works,so they cannot be separated while being discussed. The literary value of Soyinka's works dose not lie only in the fact that they presented the most significant achievements among the African drama, but also in that they brought out the first group of terminologies for the theory of postcolonialism. What's more,as the leading figure of the African literature,Soyinka led the black literature to the centre of world literature.
