A Contrastive Study Of Cohesive Devices In English And Chinese Texts And Their Translation

This is a translation report. The original text is excerpted from the sixteenth chapter of Introduction to the Law of the United States: Civil Procedure Law. This book gives the detailed information about the American legal system and legal sources. So, it is an important book for us to know something about American legislation, which owns certain reference value. In this report, through the C-E translation of the sixteenth chapter of Introduction to the Law of the United States, the author plans to pay attention to the study of comparison and analysis of English and Chinese different cohesive devices and their translation strategies.During the translation process, the author has used the proper translation strategies in accordance with diverse cohesive devices which will comply with the culture of the target language and language usage, aiming to build a natural cohesive model in the translation. The five devices in this report are Reference, Substitution, Ellipsis, Conjunction and Lexical cohesion(including reiteration and collocation). In accordance with these five devices, the author has come up with different translation skills and methods, aiming to make the translation become more accurate.
