Shen Zhaolin was an official of great importance in Xianfeng and Tongzhi Years of Qing dynasty.Although he lived a hard life and suffered from traumatic misfortunes and miseries in his early years,he worked strenuously and never gave up.He passed the imperial examination at the age of 36.After that,he worked in the government in Peking and served as examiner minister.In the fourth year of Xianfeng years(1854),he returned to his hometown to restore his health and went back and served in the government again the next year(1855).In the seventh year of Xianfeng years,he was the most senior official in South Study Room.He served as senior president of the censorate,Minister of the Board of War,and Minister of the Board of Revenue and Military Planning Minister in adjunct successively.In his work,he laid much importance on the actual effects and did not rigidly adhere to formalities and fixed routines.His relationship with Sushun became worse and worse gradually because of the cases of the Discussion on the Charge of Opium Tax,the Examination Fraud of 1858 and the two cases of the Ministry of Revenue.After the invasion of the British-French force into Peking,he felt depressed and distressed and brewed great changes in his mind.Afterwards,he chose to cooperate with foreigners after having repelled and fought against them.After the1861 coup,he became the Military Planning Minister.However,because of his conflict with Price Kung,he was sent to Gansu province and was nominated as the Viceroy of Shaan-Gan and was in charge of trials and dealing with the conflicts between the Han nationality and the Hui nationality.And he died of drowning on his way back.
