A Report On The Chinese Translation Of Globalization:A Very Short History (Excerpt)

I have selected three chapters from Globalization:A Very Short History for the translation project. Containing about 12,000 words, these three chapters shortly introduce globalization from three aspects:economy, politics and culture. The translation project is accomplished by myself with the help from my supervisor, Professor Wang Jianping.This report analyzes the characteristics of informative texts and their translation, and acknowledges the functional translation theory as a proper guide in the whole project. In the translation process, I tried my best to select the accurate meaning of the words and phrases according to my reading comprehension of the original text while doing code switching and to strengthen the logic connection between the sentences through the adjustment of word order and the addition of conjunctions. Most of the time I adopted linear translation and reverse translation method, embedding method and disconnection approach in translating long and complicated sentences.Hopefully, the translation of the original text might help my target readers to deepen their understanding of globalization and some translation methods and strategies summarized during the process of translating such an informative text might provide me with effective guidance in my future translation practice.
