| Objective: Guided by the Sunrise Model in the Theory of Trans-cultural Nursing,this present research is to explore how to cultivate Chinese nurse students’ trans-cultural consciousness in the teaching of English for Nursing Purpose under the background of China-ASEAN.Over the years,the frequent exchanges have been promoted between China and ASEAN.Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has become increasingly prominent for China-ASEAN cooperation and communication.Thus,qualified Chinese nurses with solid English skills and broad nursing knowledge are needed.As an essential part of English for Specific Purposes(ESP)education,the teaching of English for Nursing Purpose(ENP)plays an indispensable and important role in the nurse education to provide effective nursing services for foreign patients.However,recent researches have shown that teaching of ENP,to some extent,fails to satisfy the up-to-date economic development and social application.According to many empirical studies,most Chinese nurses have difficulties in good communication with foreign patients because of their lack of trans-cultural nursing consciousness,language knowledge,basic cultural knowledge and effective trans-cultural communication skills.Therefore,a new and effective mode of ENP teaching is in urgent need.Methods: Literature research and cultural value classification are applied to summarize the main features of ASEAN cultures and ASEAN-English;case study,comparison and analysis and strategy were adopted under the guidance of the Sunrise Model in the Theory of Trans-cultural Nursing.Results: It was revealed by the study that trans-cultural consciousness could be effectively cultivated under the guidance of the Sunrise Model in the Theory of Trans-cultural Nursing in the teaching of English for Nursing Purpose.Teaching methods such as case study,conversation practice,cultural comparison and cultural analysis are practical to improve students’ trans-cultural awareness.Conclusions: The adoption of the Sunrise Model in the Theory of Trans-cultural Nursing is a new way of thought and a trial method of teaching in extending the frontier of English for Special Purpose.The teaching methods in the study throw a new light on the trans-cultural nursing education in China.Additionally,keeping an eye on the demands for foreign nursing services brought by China-ASEAN economic development is conducive to promote the intensive study and application of the Theory of Trans-cultural Nursing. |
