Construction-based Approach To Para-attribute Pattern "NP₁ De NP₂ V De R"

"NP₁ de NP₂" is a familiar phrase in mandarin,as we use it for possessive or attributive relation.However,some scholars found that it could also be used for non-possession relation,such as in dialogue,we will say "Ni Zou Ni de Yangguandao,Wo Guo Wo de Dumuqiao（You do your business while I do mine）".In this case,neither the ’Yangguandao’ nor the ’Dumuqiao’belong to the subject,nor they are the features of the subjects,but it implies that "You do your business,and so do I."Here NP₁ and NP₂ are agent and patient,subject and object respectively.Thus their relationship is named ’para-attribute’ or ’fake attribute’.Lv Shuxiang was the first scholar who discovered this phenomenon in mandarin,and since then there arises the heated topic,which can be put into two groups,one is the study about the descriptive analysis of its components;and the other is the analysis of generative mechanism of this sentence pattern.Shen Jiaxuan classified the pattern into six sorts,and this paper provides an overview and information useful for approaching "NP₁ de NP₂ V DE R",especially "Ta de Laoshi Dang DE Hao".On the basis of the collection of corpus from previous researches,the thesis examine and sort out the entire corpus.The main emphasis is placed on the problem of constructional analysis of the para-attribute pattern,involving syntactic features and semantic meanings of each component,and the comparison of two constructional transformations.As a result,the author find that para-attribute pattern "NP₁ de NP₂ V DE R" is a construction sharing common syntactic features and the same constructional meaning.In addition,this paper describes the similarities and differences between the para-attribute pattern and verb-copying sentence and common "subject+ predicate+ complement" pattern.
