BackgroundResilience means a state of individual psychological well-being even after encountering setbacks. Resilience has been a hot topic of psychology study. The psychological health problems of college students draw attentions of society and psychologist. People begin to turn their attention to general populations from special populations, and to cope with the problems actively instead of defending passively. The present study is to explore the characteristics of students'resilience and its correlation with students'parental rearing patterns, personality, coping style and social support through cross-sectional survey and correlation analysis. This research will reveal the main factors influencing the occurrence and development of the resilience, and provide a scientific basis for colleges and universities to carry out mental health education and to maintain students' physical and mental health.Objectives1. To investigate the characteristics of the resilience of college students, the aim is to improve the level of College Students'resilience.2. To investigate the relationship between resilience, parental rearing patterns, personality, coping style and social support among college students.MethodsBy cluster random sampling, from October 5,2015 to December 10,2015,1033 college students, with their classes as units, were selected from Henan Normal University, Xinxiang Medical University, Xinxiang College and Henan Institute of science and technology. Their ages ranged from 16 to 23. Their average age was19.56±1.32. Their cross-sectional study was performed on the basis of the Resilience Scale for Chinese Adolescents, the Parental Bonding Instrument, the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire, the Social Support Rate Scale. All data was entered into SPSS17.0 for statistical processing, and by way of descriptive statistics, independent sample t-test, Pearson correlation analysis, stepwise regression and other methods, the college students'resilience characteristics was analyzed to (1)analyze college students'characteristics of resilience; (2) to investigate the relationships between resilience, parental rearing patterns, personality, coping style and social support among college students.Results1. The scores of resilience (t=36.335, P<0.01)were higher than the median of scale grade; The scores of girls'resilience (t=2.173, P<0.05)were higher than boy's scores; Comparing the only child with the children with siblings, the scores of RSCA had no significant differences (t=-1.166,P0.05), and neither to the students having different age (F=1.930,P>0.05); The scores of class leaders were higher than general students (t=3.242, P<0.01). There was statistical significance in the scores of the resilience among different grades (F=7.635, P<0.01); There was statistical significance in the scores of the total scores resilience among different school record students(F=5.136,P<0.01).There was no statistical significance in the scores of the total scores of resilience among different growing places (F=1.298,P>0.05).2. The scores of resilience were significantly positively correlated with mother's care (r=0.524, P<0.01), mother's encouragement (r=0.322,P*<0.01), father's care (r=0.409, P<0.01), father's encouragement (r=0.233,P<0.01). The scores of resilience were significantly negatively correlated with mother's control (r=-0.355,P<0.01) and father's control (t=-0.358,P<0.01); The scores of resilience were significantly positively correlated with extraversion (r=0.452,P<0.01), openness (r=0.288,P<0.01), agreeableness(/=0.388, P<0.01), conscientiousness (r=0.518,P<0.01).The scores of resilience were significantly negatively correlated with neuroticism (r=-0.471,P<0.01). The scores of resilience were significantly positively correlated with positive coping style (r=0.387, P<0.01), and significantly negatively correlated with negative coping style (r=-0.335, P<0.01). The scores of resilience were significantly positively correlated with social support (r=0.333, P<0.01).3. Mother's care (?=0.261),conscientiousness (?=0.241), positive coping style(? =0.159) were significantly positively predicted with resilience. Neuroticism (?=-0.222) and Father's control (?=-0.146) were significantly negatively predicted with resilience.Conclusions1. Comparing the only child with the children with siblings, theirs resilience had no significant differences, and neither to the students having different age; the resilience of class leaders were better than general students. There was statistical significance in the scores of the resilience among different grades; There was statistical significance in the scores of the total scores resilience among different school record students; there was no statistical significance in the scores of the total scores of resilience among different growing places.2. The scores of resilience were significantly positively correlated with mother's care, mother's encouragement, father's care, father's encouragement. The scores of resilience were significantly negatively correlated with mother's control and father's control; the scores of resilience were significantly positively correlated with extraversion, openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness. The scores of resilience were significantly negatively correlated with neuroticism. The scores of resilience were significantly positively correlated with positive coping style, and were significantly negatively correlated with negative coping style. The scores of resilience were significantly positively correlated with social support.3. Mother's care, conscientiousness, positive coping style were significantly positively predicted with resilience. Neuroticism, Father's control were significantly negatively predicted with resilience.
