The total score of the SCL-90 was 148.80±50.33 points, the total symptom index was 1.65±0.56, and number of positive items was 35.28±23.45, and the difference of the three indicators was significant between grades and majors(P<0.05), the low grade students were higher than high grade and information specialized higher than others specialized, but the differences were no significant in different genders, different household register and whether only child or not. In every dimension of SCL-90, the factor scores of the somatization (0.50±0.62 vs 0.40±0.52,Z=2.917,P=0.004), phobia (0.69±0.69 vs 0.60±0.65,Z=2.528,P=0.011) , paranoia (0.69±0.67 vs 0.59±0.59,Z=2.646,P=0.008) and psychosis scores (0.65±0.65 vs 0.55±0.56,Z=2.123,P=0.034) in male students were significant higher than in female students, and the terrorist factor was statistically significant higher in female students than in female students. SCL-90 total score and the every dimension factor scores were positive correlated to the negative coping style, but negative correlated with scores of active coping style, social support and general well-being (P<0.01). The Cronbach'sαof the psychological scales in this study were all closed to 1, indicated that the rating scales of the internal consistency were good. The every dimension factors of the SCL-90 and negative coping style were both negatively correlated with general well-being, and positive coping style and social support were both positively correlated with general well-being. Among them, negative correlation of the dimension factors of the somatization, paranoid and psychoticism and general well-being was regulated by the negative coping. Negative correlation of the dimension factors of the depression, anxiety and terror and general well-being was regulated by the positive coping. Negative correlation of the dimension factors of the interpersonal relation, depression, anxiety and terror and general well-being was regulated by the social support. Negative coping style, coping style and social support had the intermediation on the every dimensions of the SCL-90. The mediating effect of the coping style and social support to SCL-90 were both less than 10% of the total effect. Conclusions The mental health status of the higher vocational colleges is not optimistic, coping style and social support were partial mediation and regulation to psychology scales of the Symptom and general well-being among the vocational college students, these findings suggest that it is necessary to strengthen and take positive coping style and develop the ability of searching social support when carry out the mental health education in higher vocational college.
