The 1920 s and 1930 s were a period of great changes in Chinese thought and the influx of various Western trends of thought.Against this background,various educational thoughts have emerged,and civilian education thoughts are one of them.As a result,the idea of civilian music education was bred,and a series of practical activities of civilian music education were promoted based on it.This study takes civilian music education as the research object during this period,and conducts in-depth research and analysis on the formation,connotation,specific practices and popularization methods of the thought from the "metaphysical" and "sub-physical" levels.The article mainly includes three parts.The first part is the study of civilian music education in this period.Excavate the formation roots and historical background of this idea,and explore the value and purpose of civilian music education and the content and methods adopted.The second part analyzes the folk music education practice activities in the 20-30 s.It will elaborate from three aspects of the music education activities of civilian educators,musicians,schools and clubs.The civilian educators selected Yan Yangchu,Tao Xingzhi and Feng Zikai;the musicians selected Li Jinhui and Liu Tianhua who advocated "civilian music" as the main representatives;the schools and associations were mainly civilian schools established in universities and the Central Revolutionary Base Of amateur schools and music clubs promoting aesthetic education.The third part summarizes the historical status,overall characteristics,social impact,existing limitations and contemporary revelations of civilian music education.It can be seen that the ideas and practices of civilian music education during this period mainly reflected the emphasis on the social role of music education and the practicability and popularity of music education content.The practice of civilian music education has improved the entertainment life of civilians,provided assistance for the development of traditional Chinese music,and also promoted the popularization of music creation in the direction of development.The civilian music education in the 1920 s and 1930 s was the first large-scale music education activity in the history of Chinese music education that targeted civilians,effectively making up for the limitations of school music education.However,civilian music education in this period still has certain defects: for example,the implementation method and form are single,and a relatively complete musiceducation system has not been formed.The social function of music education cannot be reflected but the unique aesthetic education characteristics of music education cannot be reflected.The connotation of the term "civilian" also changes with the times,and we cannot just look at the past from the present perspective.In the historical environment without government domination at that time,educators and musicians were still full of enthusiasm for popularizing cultural education,improving national quality,and transforming national character,and consciously and personally promoted and carried out civilian music education.The positive historical significance also provides a useful reference for our current urban community citizens 'music education and rural farmers' music education development.
