Vietnam is always a friendly neighbor of China, and the two belong to the same Chinese cultural circle. In Vietnam, the word “Nan” is traditionally borrowed from the Chinese character. With the development of China's economic, political and cultural and the establishment of the ASEAN Free Trade Area, there are more and more frequent exchanges between the two countries, as well the more Chinese learning by Vietnamese students. Located at the border of Vietnam and Guangxi,Guangxi University for Nationalities plays an essential role in teaching Vietnamese students. Character education is an integral part of Chinese teaching, which is a difficulty to both Vietnamese students and Chinese teaching. Since the result of Character teaching has a high association with the improvement of students' Chinese proficiency, as well as relates to the promotion of Chinese language teaching of Guangxi University for Nationalities.In the study of Chinese Character teaching in Vietnam, there are limited researches about issues and countermeasures concerning Chinese Characters learning by Vietnamese students in the initial stage. For accustomed to using phonetic form, Vietnamese students find the Chinese Characters restricted Chinese improvement. On the basis of previous studies, this paper,taking the misspellings collected by observation when in teaching practice as Corpus, analyzed the factors affecting Chinese characters learning. Meanwhile, it also made an analysis from theCharacters themselves, teachers and students. Based on investigation of Vietnamese Students' Character Writing in the initial stage in Guangxi University for Nationalities, the paper analyzed the issues affecting Vietnamese students learning Chinese characters, as follows:(1)describing the current teaching situations of Chinese characters in the initial stage in Guangxi University for Nationalities;(2) exploring the specific cases and common errors of the Vietnamese Students in learning the Character in the initial stage;(3) exploring the issues of Vietnamese students' Chinese Character learning from the morphology, phonology and semantics of Chinese Characters, learners and teaching;(4) putting forth countermeasures to Chinese Characters teaching directing at Vietnamese students in the initial stage, based on the issues of Characters learning. All those could provide Vietnamese students with some help to a better learning, as well make some suggestions to the teaching of Chinese character to Vietnamese.
