This is a report on Chinese translation of the chapter 12, chapter13, chapter 14 and chapter 15 of Our Life in China, written by the American writer Henlen S.C Nevius. This report presents the item and the significance of the item; record the translation process of this translation project. Under the guidance of the Peter Newmark's text type theory, the translator studies how the text type theory apply to this translation project and how this translation project reflect the translation project. With the text type theory as a theoretical guidance in the translation process, the translator follows the semantic translation and communicative translation principles and try best to express the information,emotion and the writing style of the original work.The most important part of this report is case analysis. The further specific examples are given to illustrate how the translator adopts various translation techniques, such as, order adjustment, addition, reduction to cope with the difficulties encountered in the translation process. This report also presents how to use the semantic and the communicative translation principles to make the translation better. The case analysis provide good examples for the future translator. At last the report conclude the enlightenment and lessons translator gained in the translation as well as the unsolved questions. It is realized that the study of the translation theory are as important as the practice and it is necessary for the translator to master the English and Chinese.
