The translation material is extracted from the first chapter of Great Transportation: From the Belt and Road Initiative to the Community with Shared Future for Humanity. This chapter focuses on the evolution of the world situation, the development of post globalization and its interaction with China from the aspects of history, economy and politics. In carrying out the practical work of the involved translation project, the translator and author of the report finds that the main part of the source text belongs to the informative text category, but it exhibits a distinctive linguistic style with rich syntactic features and cultural elements. Therefore, the translator chooses Peter Newmark's text type theory as an overall theoretical guidance for her translation practice, and discusses methods for the effective translation of non-literary texts in light of his communicative translation and semantic translation, with the result that on the one hand the message intended in the source text is accurately transmitted, and on the other hand, the semantic characteristics and cultural features are also well preserved.Newmark,an English translation theorist, puts forward communicative translation and semantic translation for different text types(expressive text, informative text and vocative text)in his Approaches to translations.Communicative translation focuses essentially on the comprehension and response of target language receptors, while semantic translation centers around the semantic aspects of the source texts. Therefore,in the translation of the source text, the translator adopts flexible translation strategies according to different text types. The translator uses communicative translation as an overall guiding approach to accurately transmit the message while semantic translation to retain the linguistic and cultural features of the source text.Through this translation practice, the author has gained a deeper understanding of non-literary translation guided by Newmark's text type theory, and has mastered more comprehensive translation techniques. All of this will play a guiding role in the future translation of texts in the similar text type.
