In China, with the increasingly frequent international communication, local appeals for development has grown stronger and stronger, thus the translation of local unique culture as an important way to achieve China’s cultural exchanges with foreign countries is of crucial importance and value. Meanwhile, the uniqueness of Hunan embroidery indicates the importance and urgency of translating the relevant materials. This thesis is a practice report based on the author’s translation of Laoxiangxiu de Shoucang (The Collection of Time-honored Hunan Embroideries) from Chinese to English (C-E). The source text, The Collection of Time-honored Hunan Embroideries, with 200,000 Chinese characters, is created by Ye Yun (whose original name was Kang Jufeng), a master of collecting and appreciating Chinese traditional Hunan embroideries. Divided into embroideries themed with Arts, Folk Costumes and Daily Commodities, this book introduced in detail the classic Hunan embroideries, relevant cultural background and collection experience, which has played an important role in the resurgence of Hunan embroidery. It is an important text to promote Hunan embroidery culture.Under the guidance of Text Typology Theory, and based on the parallel texts, the author of the report analyzes the translation of the source text from four aspects, i.e. technical terms, culture-loaded words, Chinese four-character expressions and classic Chinese poetry. For technical terms, literal translation, transliteration and annotation are adopted; For culture-loaded words, literal translation plus annotation, transliteration plus annotation, and domestication in form and foreignization in content are adopted; literal translation, literal translation plus annotation and combination are adopted for Chinese four-character expressions; and finally free translation and literal translation are adopted for classic Chinese poetry. In the process of translation, some other methods such as amplification, omission, adaptation are also adopted. The translation report indicates that in order to accurately translate texts related to local characteristic culture, the translator should not only have a better and correct understanding of cultural connotation, but also apply a proper translation theory to provide helpful guidance and adapt the target text with appropriate translation strategies and methods to meet the requirements of the target readers.
