This paper is a C-E translation practice report, with its source text selected from the book Tour Commentaries of the Top Ten Ancient Water Towns in the Yangtze River Delta, which gives a detailed and comprehensive introduction to the natural and human landscapes of the top ten ancient water towns. Published by the Tourism Education Press, the book has no English version yet. On the basis of her own translation practice, the author writes this report under the guidance of the supervisor.According to the Text Typology Theory of Peter Newmark, the book Tour Commentaries of the Top Ten Ancient Water Towns in the Yangtze River Delta belongs to vocative and informative text, and thus it is proper to adopt communicative translation strategy. With the guidance of the theory and strategy, the author studies the major difficulties encountered in the practice mainly from lexical and syntactic aspects and then provides the corresponding solutions. While translating names of scenic spots, historical figures, four-character phrases, parallel sentences and long and complex sentences, the translator adopts respectively the translation methods including transliteration plus annotation, addition and omission, paraphrasing and omission, paraphrasing and trans-editing.By summing up and reflecting on the author's own translation practice, the author explains in the report the guiding significance of the Text Typology Theory in the English translation of ancient towns tour commentaries. The report, to a certain degree, also provides a reference for the translation of tourism texts.
