In the Northern and Southern Dynasties period, the term separated and regime changed frequently, which resulted in the uneven development in politics, economy and social culture.More importantly,it made the different forms of calligraphy between the north and south objectively, which drew the foreshadowing of the latter ages calligraphy. On the one hand, the frequent wars and messy political pattern provides a great space for the development of art in this period.Because of the local customs and other differences,we can find many dissimilarities between the northern calligraphy and southern calligraphy. We all know that the southern calligraphy was very beautiful and elegance, which paid more attention to the art of calligraphy was the continuation of "Two Wangs" tradition. And the northern calligraphy, which was often written on the stone tablet inscriptions was more powerful and practical. Thus the calligraphy in the Northern and Southern Dynasties was just like the Gemini in the history of Chinese calligraphy. However, because of the loss and the mistakes of calligraphic materials in the historical literature, the research on the history of the northern and Southern Dynasties' calligraphy was not thorough and comprehensive. On the other hand, the Northern and Southern Dynasties was an important turning point in the history of our country, the situation of the politics was very volatile. In the late East-jin Dynasty, the frequent changes of the southern regime and the decline of the noble family system made it difficult for some aristocratic families to live in the south. At the same time, the northern regime gradually deepened their degree of Chinese level with their fast development of military and economic power.Under the influence of military conflict between the north and the south, the Gentry lived in south crowded in north, such as Wang Bao.In 554 A.C.,the west-wei captured the capital of Liang in Southern Dynasty.Wang Bao,the Calligrapher of the Southern Dynasty entered north with the "Two Wangs" southern calligraphy, which became very popular in the Northern society. And then, the Northern inscription stone calligraphy, represented by Zhao Wenyuan was left out.In a manner of speaking,it promoted the integration of the north and the south in the cultural and artistic exchanges, which made an artful blend of the Northern and Southern calligraphy become an inevitable historical development.Obviously,it made great contributions to the prosperity and development of unity and the calligraphy of the Sui and Tang Dynasties. This thesis began with Wang Bao's entry to explore not only the Southern calligraphy's transmission but also the reason of accepted by the Northern in the late of the Northern and Southern Dynasties. This thesis consisted of four paragraphs. The former two paragraphs were mainly about the background of this study, and the latter two paragraphs were the key chapters of this thesis.Above all,the first paragraph was based on the existing historical documents of Wang Bao and his entry event to sort out Wang Bao's achievements in calligraphy, and then had a deep discussion in the misunderstanding of Wang Bao's evaluation by later generations. The second paragraph discussed the Northern and Southern calligraphy before Wang Bao's entry respectively, which analyzed the differences between the Northern and Southern calligraphy. In this way, this thesis further referenced to the influence of Emperor Xiao Wen reformation and the first transmission time in the history of calligraphy. The third paragraph did an analysis of the reason of the Southern calligraphy's transmission after Wang Bao's entry. And the last paragraph focused on the concrete expression of the calligraphy's transmission. In the end of this thesis, the epilogue pointed out the conclusion that the Southern calligraphy's transmission(resulted from the southern calligraphers'movement)promoted the integration of the Northern and Southern calligraphy was the inevitable result of historical development.
