The subject of this translation report is from Deleuze and the Political, which the writer rendered the Introduction and the First and Second Chapter into Chinese and put the First Chapter into this translation report. Deleuze and the Political is an academic work about Deleuze and his unique philosophy concepts, which was written by Professor Paul Patton who worked in Sydney University in Australia. This book was first published in 2000 and divided into Six Chapters except the Introduction and Conclusion. They respectively are concept and image of thought, difference and multiplicity, power, desire and becoming, social machines and the state, nomads and capture. Among these chapters, a lot of concepts were created by Deleuze, which presented in his representative work such as Anti-oedipus and A Thousand Plateaus. The First Chapter states the philosophical conception of Deleuze and is divided into three parts-Deleuzian concepts as open multiplicities, the dogmatic image of thought, the nature and task of philosophy. This chapter explains the role of concepts in detail and offers theoretical foundation of Deleuzian nomadic politics. In the process of this translation practice, the writer uses the Skopos Theory of German Functional School, combined with skopos rule, coherence rule and loyalty principle to guide the translation practice. The first question which the writer faced with is the translation of terminology, since it's a professional philosophical book. The writer needs to consult a quantity of philosophical articles and look for the relative translation versions to make sure the conventional translation. In addition, the original term should be noted to help the reader understand. If the fixed translation version can't be found, the writer should faithfully reflect the content which the author wanted to express under the communication-oriented principle. What's more, the language of original text is obscure and difficult, and even the sentence structure is also complex. Therefore, the writer applies some specific methods to solve these problems like linear translation, reordering, division and amplification under the guidance of coherence rule and loyalty principle to accord the Chinese usage in the process of translation. This report is divided into four chapters in total. In the first chapter, the writer illustrates the source of translation work, analyzes the original text briefly and presents the meaning of this translation practice. The second chapter records the whole process from the preparations before translation to the final draft. In the third chapter, the writer summarizes the key and difficult points during translation and settles them under the guide of Skopos Theory. The fourth chapter concludes the experience and the most significant lesson which the writer learned from this translation practice. The writer hopes that this translation work could be effective materials for domestic scholars who study Deleuze, politics and post-structuralism and offer a reference for following philosophical translation.
