This thesis is a translation practice of philosophical text. Chapter Ⅰ and Chapter Ⅱ from How to Think about Weird Things—Critical Thinking for a New Age are the source text for translation. The author attempts to discuss some difficult issues on the translation of philosophical text through the case analysis, especially at lexical level and syntactic level from the Skopos theory’s perspective.The author takes the text typology as the starting point for elaboration, summarizes the linguistic features of the text and analyzes the comprehension and expression problems in the translating process. The three principles of Skopos theory by Vermeer are applied to probe into relevant translation strategies with typical translation examples. The conclusion that the translation of philosophical text is focused on the skopos is drawn, which determines to convey information in an appropriate way.The thesis not only explains the core content of skopos theory combined with examples, but also enlarges the application of the theory.
