Yan Geling is the representative figure of overseas literature in contemporary China. Since the 1980s, he started novel creation, kept writing, and won numerous awards. His writings are skillful play on words, having profound thought and unique vision. Works of Yan Geling is not only owing the side of using exquisite words to describe figures’psychology and emotion, but also possess meaningful and wide vision side. Writer used his unique insight to experience life and create a batch of deep-themes, charismatic characters. Especially, a group of teenagers are in the puberty struggling to grow, who is sensitive and precipitance-----like Sui zi in Sui Zi’s Stories "I" in Man’s World, and Amanda’s character half-blood girl Amanda...Yan Geling’s description of adolescents growth experience, is being a distinctive angle of the feature.Bildungsroman is a literary concept introduced from the west the since thirty or forty years of the last century, and it developed rapidly in China. Bakhtin and other western literary theorist laid the theoretical foundation of western bildungsroman. During the period of enlightenment, such as French writer Rousseau’s The New Heloise, the 21st century American writer Jerome David Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye, etc. they are regarded as the representative of the western growth literary. Using the traditionally western literature definition of bildungsroman to analyze the growth of China’s modern and contemporary literature, it is difficult to find a complete work. Although it is not hard to see typical western bildungsroman in contemporary China, the Chinese writers did not let it pass. On the contrary, with great interest, they focused on the theme of growth doing endless interpretation, and created a large quantity of growing characters, for example:Su Tong’s the bloodthirsty teenagers in camphor trees street, Wang Shuo’s sunshine children in the yard and Yu Hua’s lonely boy who left home and went on a long journey, and so on. China’s literature researchers used western literary theory to deconstruct the modern and contemporary Chinese literature. After giving these works a new interpretation, Chinese bildungsroman theory is also gradually established, and developed rapidly in China.The theme of adolescent growth and development is always a literary motif whenever you write. With the contemporary Chinese theme of bildungsroman constantly enriches, the perspectives of corresponding research and contents have great potential to tap. Selecting the theme of youth growth of Yan Geling work to do the research, which is based on the works of Yan Geling having unique growth characteristics and the diversity of the development of Chinese contemporary bildungsroman theory. It is good for enriching Chinese contemporary research system of youth growth, and it also has a certain meaning to interpret comprehensively Yan Geling’s work style. The thesis will use subject category and close reading, comparative research and the comprehensive cross-disciplinary integrated research methods, etc.. The thesis is taking the theme of teenagers grows up in work of Yan Geling as the research topic, exploring the teenager’s trajectory in the works of Yan Geling, providing new research ideas for Yan Geling, and also providing some attempts for Chinese bildungsroman study. The thesis is combined with the growing experience and era background of Yan Geling, the author’s two texts of growth theme can be divided into two categories:domestic girl bildungsroman and exotic country young bildungsroman of immigration, and induces and analyzes them. According to the historical opportunity of growth hero, a careful study of the relationship between growth hero and the passer-by in the growth hero, to reveal the characteristics of body and mind of youth’s growth. And the thesis also writing from the perspective of the text language, structure, imagery, multiple narrative perspective to analysis teenager grows theme novel of Yan Geling. The first part of the thesis is briefly introduction the origin and development of bildungsroman and the writer’s life and creations. Through interpreting the definition of bildungsroman, combining with the works of Yan Geling, hereby to decide to research the theme of growth of Yan Geling’s novels. The second part from the political environment, family environment, the collective and immigration environment four aspects of external environment to analyze Yan Geling’s growth characters’growth under several environments. The third part introduce the growth guilder, growth partners met different characters in different growth path and their relationship with the growth character, and from teenager’s physical, mental, and spiritual growth process to explore the growth character’s growth experience. Finally, analysis Yan Geling’s unique narrative technique in describing theme of adolescence. The thesis studied Yan Geling characters image and text by using the theory of bildungsroman, and revealed the Yan Geling’s youth the constantly longing for freedom and the pursuit of independence. It is also the desire and pursuit becoming teenagers grow the inexhaustible power.
