J.R.R. Tolkien is regarded as one of the most influential writers in 20 thcentury. The stories on the Middle-earth created by Tolkien have distinct linguistic features: the language perfectly corresponding to the stories content, having highly aesthetic values, and having nature flavor. These language features mainly profit from Tolkien's unique linguistic philosophy which contains: the parallel and symbiotic development between language and mythology, the essentially poetic expressions of language, and the original semantic unity and subsequent fragmentation in historical perspective.By analyzing the linguistic features in Tolkien's Middle-earth stories and exploring the linguistic theories underlying these features, the readers may appreciate the stories further in a special perspective, understand the profound connotation refracted by these linguistic features and perceive the contemporary significance and the academic significance of Tolkien's fictions on the Middle-earth, and in addition his introspection on the modern industrialization that impacts the world enormously in the stories.
