In the narrative of literature history, the "Xueheng School" has been always regarded as the "New Culture Movement" opposition. Its historical value was not re-assessed in the academia until the late eighties, and it returned to academia as a participant of the China's "modernity" constructor. Babbitt's "Humanism" theory contributes to construction of "Xueheng School's" theoretical system, while it will inevitably lead to "Misreading" due to cross-context. This paper shows the "misreading" and its utilization by the-"Xueheng School". "Xueheng School's" history, Babbitt's "humanism" thought, "Xueheng School's" acceptance and cultural debate are all discussed in detail. In the study of Babbitt's "humanism" Thought, it will is placed in the entire tradition of Western humanism to discuss, and we concentrate on "Confucianism" as a constructive role in his theory and the possibility of "misreading". "Xueheng School" introduced Babbit's theory because of his attitude to "Confucianism", while his "misreading" was also publicized and used in the cultural debate. On the other hand, "Xueheng School" localized Babbit's theory, while "misreading" it. The paper shows this "double misreading" and the insightful meanings behind.
